As per the DPR of the college and detailed guidelines of Education Division of ICAR, New Delhi for imparting the 4 years ( Hons) degree programme in subject of Horticulture following 08 departments viz., i) Department of Basic Sciences, ii) Department of Fruit Science, iii) Department of Vegetable Science, iv) Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, v) Department of Post Harvest Management, vi) Department of Plant Protection, vii) Department of Natural Resource Management and viii) Department of Social Sciences have been established by the university.

The Department of Basic Science was established according to Academic Council of Central Agricultural University along with 7 other departments of the College of Horticulture, Bermiok, Sikkim. It is a multi-disciplinary department with disciplines like Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Biochemistry. Plant Physiology, Agricultural Microbiology and Agricultural statistics. The department is taking role in nurturing the young minds of horticulture with the concept and techniques of the disciplines of Basic Sciences. Presently, the department offers courses of different disciplines as mentioned above for meeting the degree of B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture.
