DEPARTMENT OF VEGETABLE SCIENCE

Currently the Department of Vegetable Science is led by Dr. A.K. Pandey, Dean & Professor and Dr.Nangsol Dolma Bhutia, Assistant Professor, College of Horticulture, Bermiok, South Sikkim. The Department of Vegetable Science is one of the core departments of Horticulture discipline and offers Vegetable courses as prescribed by the Fifth Deans’ Committee report to complete the 04 years B.Sc. (Hons.) degree requirement of Horticulture graduate.

The Department of Vegetable Science is dedicated to improving vegetable crop management and cultivation within the specific agro-climatic conditions of the area. The focus is on creating sustainable farming methods that are appropriate for Sikkim's steep terrain and the organic farming systems that are widely used there.
In order to improve vegetable output and quality, the department conducts research on crop improvement, pest and disease management, organic fertilization, and soil health. In addition, it provides local farmers and students with educational and training opportunities that encourage awareness about the latest knowhow in the field of vegetable science.
